Breaking News – Video – Unknown When Power Will Be Restored to Parts of Cobourg

In Local, Photo Gallery

It’s unknown how large an area of Cobourg is impacted following a power outage late Sunday evening.

At approximately 11 p.m. Cobourg Fire Department was dispatched to D’Arcy Street and 7th Street at Northam Industrial Park for arcing wires and hydro lines down.

When fire crews arrived on scene, the top of a hydro pole was burning and part of the pole and wires were on the ground.

It appears a hydro wire may have burned through the pole.

Lakefront Utilities issued a notice stating they were aware of two outages in the Cobourg area.

Firefighters stood by until Lakefront Utilities arrived and the scene was safe.

Due to the damage by the fire, “it’s safe to say this may be a longer outage,” stated Lakefront Utilities.

“Our crews will be working to re-route power where possible and restore service to as many customers as we can, as quickly and safely as possible.”

Lakefront Utilities said they had no estimate time of restoration and didn’t say how many homes were affected.

Due to the power outage one person had to be rescued from a elevator at the Golden Plough.

A number of factories in the Northam Industrial Park were also affected by the power outage along with gas stations, convenience stores and Tim Hortons along Division Street.

The area was deemed safe by Lakefront Utilities and Cobourg Fire Department extinguished the fire around 1 a.m.
