Video – Salmon Is A Big Draw for Both Port Hope and Cobourg for Different Reasons

In Local, Photo Gallery

If you’re ever along the waterways of Cobourg and Port Hope this time of year the main word you’re likely to hear is “salmon.”

On Saturday, September 13, 2025 a number of anglers were along Cobourg Creek doing their best to hook a salmon.

One person from Cornwall told Today’s Northumberland they’ve had their family hear for three weeks and have likely put close to $10,000 into the local economy.

Their main spot for fishing like many others seems to be Peace Park, which is relatively peaceful in the day with the odd echoing of “fish-on” or “coming up” or “coming down.”

In Port Hope there is no yelling of any type as from Highway 401 to the railway bridges near the mouth of the Ganaraska River it is closed off for the season for salmon.

Tourists flock all along the Ganaraska River for viewing the fish, but mainly go to Corett’s Dam.

Back in Cobourg during the evening hours there seems to be an over abundance of yelling with the usual of angling terminology.

But also because of the darkness it’s easier to get lines tangled which also seems to raise the temperatures of some people.
