Young break and enter suspects arrested
Two young people – including a 12-year-old boy – were arrested and charged following an early morning break-in to a business on North Front Street today.
In an incident unrelated to the earlier jewelry store break-in, police were called to a grocery outlet around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday after suspects threw a cinderblock through the front window to gain entry.
While reviewing video footage of the break-in, officers received timely assistance from a witness who directed them toward two suspects matching the description.
The pair – who were cutting through several business properties and nearby residential backyards to avoid detection – were located and arrested a short distance away.
Officers also reported finding a trail of stolen items from the store.
The Belleville Police Canine Unit has been called in to assist in ensuring all the items removed from the location are recovered.
Further, the Belleville Police Forensic Identification Unit responded to assist with processing the scene for evidence.
A 15-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy, both of Belleville, were arrested and charged with Break and Enter, Mischief and Theft under $5,000.
The pair are due to be released to their guardians later this morning on conditions, including a curfew and not to communicate with each other.
They are scheduled to appear in Belleville youth court in October to face the charges
