Arson
Officers with the Peterborough Police Service are investigating after an attempted arson at a Peterborough business early Monday morning.
At approximately 3:22am on July 28, 2025, officers were called after a gas can was thrown through a window of the business in a plaza near Lansdowne Street West and Webber Avenue. There was no fire due to the sprinkler system activating, but extensive water damage.

Indecent Act Arrest
A 63-year-old Peterborough man is facing a charge after an incident Saturday evening.
At approximately 6:30pm on Saturday, July 26, 2025, officers were called about a disturbance in the Romaine Street and Monaghan Road area at a bus stop. Upon arrival, officers learned that several people had witnessed a man had been masturbating and that there were children in the area at the time. A man matching the description given to police was located and taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 63-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Indecent Act – Public Place
The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
Traffic Enforcement Initiative
The Peterborough Police Service Traffic Management Unit conducted a traffic enforcement initiative in Lakefield this past weekend.
Much of the work was educating motorists on the rules of the road with 26 warnings issued to drivers.
Officers also issued:

- 1 Plate Seized
- 8 Vehicle Inspections Completed

Impaired Arrest
An 18-year-old Selwyn Township man is facing impaired charges after an incident Sunday evening in Peterborough.
Between 6:00pm and 7:00pm on July 27, 2025, two calls came in about a possible impaired driver travelling west on Lansdowne Street West area towards Brealey Drive. A third call came in about a vehicle that had struck an electrical box in the Cherryhill Road and Redwood Drive area. Upon arrival to the area, officers located the driver and noticed obvious signs of impairment.
As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old Selwyn Township man was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Novice driver – B.A.C above zero (Highway Traffic Act)
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court September 9, 2025.
Weapons Arrest
A 37-year-old Peterborough woman is facing charges after an incident Friday afternoon.
At approximately 1:10pm on July 25, 2025, officers were called to a building in the McDonnel Street and Stewart Street area. Upon arrival, officers learned that an unwanted woman was trying to enter the building, the victim was able to get the woman out of the building, and she took off before returning to the victim’s vehicle with a hatchet and threatening to damage it. Officers were able to locate the woman nearby and take her into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Uttering Threats – Damage Property
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court September 2, 2025.
Break and Enter Arrest
A 32-year-old Peterborough man is facing a number of charges after an incident Friday night.
At approximately 11:50pm on July 25, 2025, officers were called to a business in the Aylmer Street and Murray Street area about a break and enter in progress. Upon arrival, officers spotted a man matching the description given to police walking away from the door of the business. During a search after arrest, officers seized:
- 35.4 grams – Fentanyl
- 208 – Hydromorphone Pills
- Cell phones
- Drug Paraphernalia
- Cash
As a result, a 32-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Fentanyl
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Hydromorphone
The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court July 26, 2025.
