Exclusive – Video – Close Call for Driver Who Was Seconds Away from Heading In the Wrong Direction on Highway 401

In Local

It was a close call for one driver that was seconds away from heading in the wrong direction on Highway 401 at Port Hope on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

A number of volunteers were cleaning the on and off-ramps of the Highway of Heroes/Highway 401 at Toronto Road in honour of Craftsman Kyle Sinclair.

As the volunteers were cleaning the off-ramp of Highway 401 westbound at approximately 9 a.m., a vehicle turned onto the off-ramp and was seconds away from heading east into the westbound lanes of the highway.

Luckily at the time the volunteers were cleaning the ramp.

The driver stopped and asked one of the volunteers cleaning the ramps if she was headed in the right direction as she was heading to Kingston.

The startled volunteer immediately pointed her in the right direction.

The woman backed her car onto Toronto Road, went south, under the bridge and safely made it onto the eastbound on-ramp.
