It was a historic milestone for the Campbellford Memorial Hospital on May 15, 2025.
During the announcement of the Provincial Budget at Queen’s Park, Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy announced the Planning Grant for a new hospital in Campbellford has been approved.
“This moment represents the culmination of years of hard work, advocacy, and commitment from across our hospital and community,” said Peter Mitchell, Executive Assistant/Communications & Community Relations Manager.
“Today’s announcement lays the foundation for our future redevelopment efforts and will help ensure that CMH continues to provide safe, high-quality care for the next 80 years and beyond.”
The development for the Campus of Care that will be located on County Road 30, just west of Campbellford on a plot of land donated by local farmer Jim Curle.
The proposed Campus of Care is an ambitious endeavor that aims to provide an array of healthcare services in one location including a redeveloped 50 bed hospital, and a new 128 bed long-term care home. The development will also contain a medical office building designed to house the Community Mental Health Program, the Geriatric Assessment and Intervention Network, primary care offices and other ancillary health services. Also included on the site will be supportive and staff housing complexes, recreational trails, community gardens and wooded areas.
Today’s Northumberland caught up with MPP David Piccini at a Nursing Week event at Northumberland Hills Hospital early Friday morning.
“It’s great news. This community has fought for a brand new hospital. It was very auspicious because 80 years ago to the day, Campbellford Memorial Hospital was incorporated. On the wake of VE day and 80 years later we’ve committed to renewal to plan for a new hospital that’s going to serve our community for the next 80 years.”
“It went from a dream to reality.”
There is much work to be done, but Piccini said, “the planning grant is the key, key, key piece to turn those ideas and put it into reality.”
There will be activities happing such as site servicing, expanding storm water/waste water and bringing all the services in.
“OMNI Health Care, the Province has increased additional beds for a brand new long-term care home in Campbellford.”
From a brand new rec centre in Campbellford to the announcement of a new hospital, “we’re leaving northing behind in rural Ontario.”
Picinni said there are incredible people doing great work at Campbellford Memorial Hospital, “but a new campus of care will also have the benefit of attracting new talent for decades to come.”
“Not just health care today, but health care for tomorrow and decades into the future.”
