Northumberland Paramedics Chief Susan Brown invites the community to join in the celebrations for Paramedic Services Week May 18 to 25.

“Save the date,” Brown said Tuesday at county council’s Community Health Committee meeting.

A quieter celebration will take place at that week’s county council meeting, when they will stage a demonstration of a hands-free CPR device, “just to show what 911 paramedics do every day in our community,” Brown explained.

Other celebrations are more lively, such as the May 22 Paramedics, Friends and Family Barbecue, held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. and also from 3:30 to 6 p.m. The Teddy Bear First Response Team will be on hand for any stuffed friends in need of their attention, and there will be appearances by Terry the Traumasaurus and Ivy the paramedics’ therapy dog, Early ON Years staff will organize games, activities and face painting.

And on May 24, Terry and Ivy will be at the Cobourg Farmers Market from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. as part of the paramedics’ visit from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Teddy Bear Assessment Clinic will be open, and the Early ON Years team will be offering games and activities.

Committee Chair Olena Hankivsky questioned the choice of a Cobourg Farmers Market visit, asking if they would consider visits to other Northumberland farmers markets.

This is something they do regularly, Brown said, and other appearances are planned.
