Cobourg Police and OPP are investigating a suspicious death that occurred in Cobourg on March 2, 2025.
Few details are being released, but Cobourg Police issued a brief press release at 7:30 a.m. stating they were advising the public of a police presence at an apartment building at 24 James Street West in Cobourg and it is expected police will be on scene for the next several hours.
Police have stated to Today’s Northumberland there is no risk to the public regarding the incident.
Today’s Northumberland has learned that emergency services, including police, paramedics and fire were dispatched to an apartment at the residence around 6 a.m.
Later the apartment was cordoned off with a Special Constable guarding the door to the upper floor apartment.
Shortly after 12 p.m. a coroner, along with a Detective Sergeant with the Cobourg Police Criminal Investigations Branch and two OPP Forensic Identification Officers entered the building to begin their investigation.
Today’s Northumberland spoke to one person in the building who said that a woman lives in the apartment where the investigation is taking place.
Numerous reports have stated one person is in custody, but police haven’t confirmed or provided any further information.
Police have stated that, “an update will be provided once appropriate.”
