KPR District School Board Reviewing Regions to Develop Student Accommodation Plan

In Local

As we welcome a growing number of students and families in the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, administration has been reviewing each region across the district to develop an appropriate and responsive student accommodation plan.

As part of that work, school board staff has created a Background Study with student enrolment, school space available, and existing attendance boundaries for all schools in Northumberland County and the City of Quinte West – Murray Ward.

To support high quality learning experiences and opportunities for all students, administration reviewed the schools within this region to consider possible changes that could be needed to balance enrolment.

Boundary Adjustments
At this time, there are no recommended adjustments for: Cobourg Collegiate Institute Family of Schools, East Northumberland Secondary School Family of Schools (English stream students) or Port Hope High School Family of Schools.

Administration has completed minor boundary adjustments for Hastings Public School, and boundary adjustments for French Immersion students at Colborne PS and Northumberland Hills PS.

Current students and families affected by these adjustments will have the option to continue to attend their current school or move to the new boundary school (if applicable). All new registrations as of September 2025 will attend their new boundary school.

More information about these boundary adjustments is available at //www.kprschools.ca/accommodation_Northumberland

Kent PS and Hillcrest PS Proposed Accommodation Changes
School board administration is recommending adjustments within the Campbellford District High School Family of Schools, specifically boundary adjustments and/or changes to grade cohorts at Kent Public School and Hillcrest Public School in Campbellford.

A community engagement meeting will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Campbellford District High School at 6:00 p.m. This meeting will review proposed changes for Kent Public School and Hillcrest Public School in Campbellford. The two concepts being proposed are:

Concept A (effective September 2026):

Kent PS becomes Junior Kindergarten (JK) to Grade 6

Kent PS Grades 7 and 8 attend Hillcrest PS (Students in Grade 8 as of September 2026 would remain at Kent PS).

Concept B (effective September 2026):

Boundary adjustment between Kent PS and Hillcrest PS, K – 6 (Individual students affected who are in Grade 7 and 8 as of September 2026 would not be moved).

More information on these proposed concepts, including enrolment projections, overview of impacts, proposed implementation, and boundary maps are available at //www.kprschools.ca/accommodation_Northumberland

Families, students and staff may provide feedback about the accommodation strategies at the in-person community engagement meeting, or through the KPR website where an online survey link is posted.

We appreciate that this process and the outcomes are of significant interest to families.

Consolidated feedback and a summary of the feedback provided through the community engagement process related to the Campbellford District HS Family of Schools will be brought to the board for a final decision by June 2025.

Thank you for your continued support of our school communities. Questions about this process can be directed to Superintendent John Ford, at 1-877-741-4577, ext. 2012, or by email: kpr_info@kprdsb.ca

Sincerely,

Rita Russo
