Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating unrelated serious injury collisions that closed roads in the county.
On January 16, 2025, shortly after 11:30 a.m., OPP re sponded to a multiple vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound in the Municipality of Port Hope. EMS and fire departments were also dispatched to the incident where several people were reported to be seriously injured.
Five persons were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Sadly, a 70-year-old male from Colborne, was pronounced deceased. The remaining four individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The highway was closed with diversions in place at Burnham St as Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) members attended the scene to assist with the investigation. As many as 15 vehicles were involved in the incident, including two tractor- trailers. The highway was closed for some time for the investigation and environmental cleanup with an opening time of around 2:45 a.m. this morning.
On January 16, 2025, at around 9:40 a.m., police received a report of collision involving two vehicles on County Road 28 in the Municipality of Port Hope. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Fire Department also responded to the location.
OPP arrived at the scene where two passenger vehicles had sustained heavy damage, and a third vehicle was in the ditch on the west side. Three occupants were treated by EMS and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Unfortunately, a family pet did not survive the incident.
County Road 28 was closed at County Road 9 and Boundary Road for the investigation until resources and clean-up crews were clear at approximately midday.
Both these investigations are ongoing, and investigators are asking for anyone who may have witnessed or has video/dash camera footage of the collisions and has not spoken with police, to contact the Northumberland OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
