Northumberland OPP
The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a sudden death in the Municipality of Brighton.
On December 30, 2024, shortly before 4:00 p.m., OPP received a report from CN Police regarding an individual found in the area of the train tracks near Ontario Street in Brighton.
Officers proceeded to the location along with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) who confirmed the person to be deceased. Trains were stopped in the area for some time and the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario was notified.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is currently underway assisted by the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services (IDENT) and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.
The investigation into the identity of the deceased is on-going. A post-mortem examination is to be conducted at the Ont ario Forensic Pathology Service in Kingston.
On December 31, 2024, members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Canine Unit (K9) also attended the location to perform a coordinated search of the area. Officers are also canvassing the area for CCTV footage and seeking possible lines of inquiry with residents and businesses in and around the location.

While the cause of death remains under investigation, police believe there is no threat to public safety.
The investigation is in its early stages and no further details can be released at this time.
Belleville Police Service
UPDATE MISSING PERSON – ANDREW ROBINSON
On the 30th of December, 2024, the Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police notified the Belleville Police Service that a deceased male was located in the town of Brighton.
Shortly before 4:00 p.m., OPP received a report from CN Police regarding an individual found in the area of the train tracks near Ontario Street in Brighton, Ontario. The deceased male has been identified as missing Belleville, Ontario resident Andrew Robinson (age 26) by the coroner’s office.
Robinson was last observed at 2:25am on the 23rd of December.
The Northumberland OPP Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services (IDENT), in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario, is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
A post-mortem examination is to be conducted by the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Kingston.
Police at this time do not believe the death to be suspicious.
