The procession for Lieutenant-Colonel (LCol) Kent Miller passed through Cobourg along the Highway of Heroes on Thursday, November 28, 2024.

And on the Ontario Street bridge as he has been for fallen soldiers coming back from Afghanistan (2001-2014) was Cobourg resident Wayne McVeen.

McVeen stood on the bridge for nearly two-hours, in the very same spot he has for those soldiers lost in combat.

LCol Miller didn’t die in combat, but passed away from medical complications on November 25, 2024.

But died serving Canada and its citizens.

And on Thursday evening McVeen and others including Northumberland County Paramedics, Northumberland OPP and every fire department along the Highway of Heroes stood on bridges as the procession passed by.

LCol Miller was serving with Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Casteau, Belgium, under Operation UNIFIER and attached to Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in a planning and coordination capacity when he passed away in Belgium.

LCol Miller was an Engineering Officer with 24 years of experience in the Canadian Armed Forces. He was most recently the Commanding Officer of 41 Combat Engineer Regiment in Alberta and was deployed to SHAPE in a planning and coordination capacity.
