Northumberland County – Upcoming Clinic to Support Residents with Replacing Special ID and Accessing Wellness Services

In Local

Access to valid identification is essential for connecting to the services and opportunities that enable individuals and families to thrive. To make this process easier, Northumberland County Community & Social Services, in partnership with local community and government agencies, are hosting a Special Identification and Wellness Clinic on Tuesday, November 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Columbus Community Centre (232 Spencer Street East, Cobourg).

This one-day clinic is designed to reduce the barriers that individuals face in replacing lost or outdated ID and accessing essential resources. Replacing identification can be a daunting and time-consuming process, often requiring multiple visits to different offices. It can be an overwhelming task.

“Identification is a vital necessity but replacing identification is not just about paperwork; it’s about ensuring people have access to essential services,” states Jennifer Glover, Ontario Works Manager for Northumberland County Community and Social Services. “It allows people to access health care, social supports, open a bank account, and secure employment. This clinic is a collaborative effort to help residents overcome barriers and connect with the resources they need to thrive.”

The clinic aims to simplify the process of replacing ID and accessing support by offering hands-on help with applications and referrals to community programs. With representatives from Service Canada, Service Ontario, Northumberland Legal Aid, and other partners on site, residents will be able to receive in-person assistance. In addition to ID replacement, the clinic will also provide information and referrals for health care, child care support, and housing services.

“This clinic is about strengthening our community by providing a convenient, accessible, and welcoming space for everyone and creating stability for individuals and families,” added Glover. “Whether you need help replacing a health card, accessing government programs, or just want to learn more about local resources, key community partner agencies will be onsite to assist.”

This collaborative community-wide initiative brings together key community partners offering a variety of supports including:

· Northumberland County Community & Social Services: Application assistance for Ontario Works and other supports.

· Service Canada: Help with Social Insurance Numbers (SIN), federal benefits, and the Canadian Dental Care Program.

· Service Ontario: Assistance with health cards, address changes, and Ontario Photo Card applications.

· Northumberland Paramedics Community Paramedicine Program: Medical referrals and program details.

· Northumberland Legal Aid: Information on legal aid resources.

· Transition House Shelter: Information on shelter services, birth certificate applications, and fee waivers.

· The Help Centre: Support with birth certificate applications, the fee waiver program, and program information.

· EarlyON Child and Family Centres: Information on child care subsidy programs.

To ensure the clinic is accessible and supportive, on-site childcare will be available through EarlyON Child & Family Centres, and attendees will enjoy snacks and free Wi-Fi while they wait.

All residents are welcome to attend this free event. For more information, including transportation options or participating organizations, please call Northumberland County Community & Social Services at 1-800-354-7051.
