Northumberland OPP – A Number of Traffic Charges Over the Weekend

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid a number of traffic charges over the weekend.

Campbellford Man Charged

On October 4, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m., police responded to a traffic complaint regarding a driver who sustained damage to their vehicle as it travelled through a construction area on Payn Road in the Township of Hamilton.

Officers spoke to witnesses who provided a description of the driver and vehicle to assist with the investigation. OPP then spoke to the individual sought in connection with the incident. Upon doing so, police entered into an impaired operation investigation where an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made. As a result, the accused was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further tests.

Glenn CHADBAND, 41-years-old, from Campbellford, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

In addition to a future court date, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

Baltimore Man Facing a Number of HTA Charges

On October 4, 2024, at approximately 5:10 p.m., a motorcycle officer was on patrol on Division Street North in the Township of Hamilton, when they observed a passenger vehicle with an obstructed windshield and improper tires. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was found to be suspended.

A 28-year-old, from Baltimore, has been charged with:

–      Driving while under suspension

–      Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

–      Use plate not authorized for vehicle

–      Improper tires

–      Windshield obstructed

–      Operate unsafe vehicle

–  Obstruct plate.

The individual is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

From October 4 to October 6, 2024, Northumberland OPP advise the following were among the top number of offences by motorists:

–      Speeding – 49 charges

–      Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit – seven charges

–      Careless driving – three charges

–      Driving while under suspension – three charges

–      Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed – two charges.

The OPP is committed to reducing and preventing injuries on roads, highways, waterways, and trails, while enhancing safety for motorists and all other road users through public education and enforcement.
