Video – Police Continue to Investigate After Man’s Body Pulled from Cobourg Harbour

In Local, Police Blotter

The body of a man was pulled from the water nearly seven hours after he went missing in Cobourg Harbour on Saturday, September 2024.

Emergency services including the Cobourg Fire Department, Cobourg Police, Northumberland County Paramedics and the Canadian Coast Guard responded to the area immediately south of the Coast Guard pier for a person that went missing at approximately 1:35 p.m. on Saturday.

The man was with his wife when he suddenly entered the water just west of the east pier.

Shortly after the 67-year-old didn’t resurface and emergency services were dispatched.

At 1:47 pm members of the Coast Guard had their boat in the area where the person was last scene.

At 1:50 pm members of the fire department wearing immersible water suits entered the water to begin searching.

The water was approximately 15-feet deep in the area where the man was last seen and even using poles, it appeared firefighters weren’t reaching the bottom.

Firefighters later used an inflatable raft to search the immediate area along with the Coast Guard. A grappling hook was used to drag the bottom of the area, but emergency services were unable to find the individual and at approximately 3:30 pm the search was called off for the individual and a request was made for the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Team.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Team arrived at approximately 7:20 p.m. and entering the water it took less than 10-minutes to locate the individual.

Police are continuing to investigate.

The individual was not from the area.
