Ontario Government and Ontario Medical Association Reach Agreement to Increase Access to Primary Care

In Provincial

On Thursday, September 12, 2024, Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, issued the following statement regarding the first year of the new physician’s services agreement (PSA):

“We have received Arbitrator Kaplan’s decision regarding the first year of a new four-year physician services agreement with the Ontario Medical Association (OMA).

This agreement builds on the $17.5 billion the province currently spends to connect people to family doctors, primary care and other services across the province, 50 per cent more than when we took office in 2018.

Together with our historic investments to stand up more primary care teams, enhance digital tools through Health811, expand medical school spots and break down barriers for internationally-trained doctors, this agreement will help achieve our goal of connecting everyone to primary care. This agreement provides for specific funding to be allocated to targeted investments and our goal will be to work with the OMA to keep expanding access to family doctors and primary care, including in northern Ontario.

Our government looks forward to continuing to collaborate with the OMA as we implement this agreement that will connect more people to high-quality, patient centred care from Ontario’s doctors.”
