Cobourg Police Command Post Removed from Victoria Park Campground

In Local, Police Blotter

An empty patch of grass is all that’s left after the Cobourg Police Command Post was removed from the Victoria Park Campground.

Today’s Northumberland reported on July 17, 2024, the Command Post was rarely, if ever used during the summer of 2024.

On July 30, 2024, Cobourg Police Communications Manager, Lisa Munday confirmed the trailer will not be coming back t his summer.

“The trailer has been removed because it is not currently being used. At this time, there are no plans to bring it back for the summer.”

Traditionally Cobourg Police Volunteers, along with Auxiliary members and YIPI (Youth in Policing Initiative) use the trailer for the summer along with by-law and police on patrol stopping by.

It’s been a Command Post for people who have lost their children, or in need of medical assistance or for any number of reasons.

Chief Paul VandeGraaf said the YIPI program is not in operation this summer.

This will mark the first year the Command Post will not be located in the Campground in likely a decade or more.
