Video – Another Day, Another Wrong-Way Driver in Cobourg

In Local, Police Blotter

Another day, another wrong-way driver in Cobourg.

As reported numerous times by Today’s Northumberland, there appears to be an ongoing problem with motorists leaving the parking lot on Charles Street near Victoria Park and travelling the wrong way on the one-way street.

For the past several weeks, Today’s Northumberland has documented multiple instances of drivers heading in the wrong direction along the roadway, raising concerns about a potentially dangerous situation for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

Saturday, August 22, 2026, was no different.

In a short period of time, one vehicle was observed casually travelling the wrong way along the one-way section of Charles Street after leaving the parking area.

The driver continued along the roadway, passing a security vehicle before making a right-hand turn onto Queen Street.

There was no apparent attempt by the driver to correct their direction of travel, despite the vehicle clearly travelling against the designated traffic flow.

The repeated incidents raise questions about whether drivers are unaware of the one-way designation, are ignoring the signage, or are simply choosing the most convenient route out of the parking area.

For residents and visitors using the area around Victoria Park, the continued wrong-way driving is becoming an increasingly familiar sight — and one that could have serious consequences if an unsuspecting driver, cyclist or pedestrian encounters a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

Today’s Northumberland will continue to monitor the situation.
