Cobourg Police and Firefighters Battle It Out on the Ice Raising Funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northumberland

It was a great evening of fun and sportsmanship at the Cobourg Community Centre as the Cobourg Fire Department took on the Cobourg Police in a charity match raising funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northumberland on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

The event kicked off at 5 p.m. with a Touch-a-Truck at the front of the CCC with a number of vehicles from the fire and police services.

The ceremonial puck drop was at 7 p.m. with members of both services along with members of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northumberland.

Shortly after the “official” puck drop, Cobourg Fire Chief Ellard Beaven had a bit of fund with another face-off with firefighter Matt Diminie facing off against police officer Ryan Rinneard.

Chief Beaven tried to get on the “good side” of the police and instead of using a puck for the face-off he used a sprinkled doughnut.

During play, Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland was referee and Chief Beaven also tried to get the advantage by using a water-pack that is commonly used for grass/brush fires to spray police officers as they skated by the firefighters bench.

The action filled game ended perfectly in a 5-5 tie, but the real winners were the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northumberland, with the help of the community raised approximately $3,000.
