Small Fire Started Underneath Victoria Playground Structure For “Energy”

In Local, Police Blotter

For the second time on Thursday, February 1, 2024 emergency services were dispatched to Victoria Park in Cobourg to deal with a small fire.

Cobourg Fire Department were dispatched to the playground in Victoria Park shortly after 3 p.m. after witnesses saw two people under playground equipment (pirate ship) having a small fire.

When crews arrived one of the people left the area, but the person fire crews dealt with in the morning at a small fire at the Lions Pavilion was still underneath the playground equipment.

Today’s Northumberland spoke briefly with the individual who was packing his belongings underneath the playground structure.

The individual said he and a friend were just smoking a joint underneath the structure. But the fire wasn’t to keep them warm. The individual said it was for “energy.”

After the individual packed his belongings he was escorted out of the park by bylaw.
