Peterborough County OPP – CEW Used During Execution of Warrant (Name Released)

A Conductive Energy Weapon (CEW) was used during an arrest at the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.

On January 4, 2024, members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended the Ontario Court of Justice to effect an arrest on an individual wanted on an outstanding Warrant. The individual resisted officers when advised of the arrest, failing to comply with any directions being given to them. Officer s attempted to take physical control of the individual but due to their resistance, were required to take them to the ground. The accused became actively resistant while officers attempted to handcuff them, resulting in the deployment of a CEW to gain control.

James ARMSTRONG (age 50) of Willow Beach, ON., was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault a Peace Officer
  • Resist Peace Officer

The accused was held for Bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice.
