Cobourg Police – Cobourg Man and Youth Facing Several Charges (No Name Released)

A 19-year-old Cobourg man and a 17-year-old Cobourg youth are facing weapons-related charges after a police investigation into an incident involving an imitation firearm.

On Wednesday, December 27th, 2023, police opened an investigation after receiving a report of an incident that occurred early that morning in a parking lot on Strathy Road in Cobourg.

It was reported to police that at 1:15 a.m., two individuals approached a vehicle with two occupants in the parking lot. One individual used a car jack to damage the vehicle, and the second individual struck one of the occupants of the car with an imitation firearm. One occupant of the car exited the vehicle and was pushed up against the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

As a result of the police investigation, two suspects were identified, located, and arrested.

A 19-year-old Cobourg man was charged with:

• Mischief under $5,000 contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose 88(1) of the Criminal Code

• Use imitation firearm in commission of offence 85(2)(a) of the Criminal Code

• Two counts of Assault with a weapon contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code

• Use imitation firearm in commission of offence 85(2)(a) of the Criminal Code

The 19-year-old was held for a bail hearing and later released with a future court date.

A 17-year-old Cobourg youth was charged with:

• Mischief Under $5,000 contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

• Assault with a weapon contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code

The 17-year-old was released on an undertaking with a future court date.

Investigators believe this to be a targeted incident.
