Woman Charged With Arson Resulting from Dumpster Fire in Cobourg (Name Released)

A 52-year-old Cobourg woman is facing an arson charge following an incident Sunday morning (October 29, 2023)

Emergency services were called to Northumberland Humane Society Thrift Store on Cover Street for a report of a fire at approximately 4 a.m.

Upon arrival fire crews observed the contents of a dumpster on fire.

The heat from the fire melted some of the siding on  the building.

A short tim later, 52-year-old Heather GILL-FALLOWFIELD of Cobourg was arrested at the scene and charged with the following:

1) Arson – damage to property contrary to section 434 of the Criminal Code

GILL-FALLOWFIELD was held in custody pending a Show Cause Hearing on October 29th, 2023.

· Other activities over the weekend include a broken window that was damaged when a urn fell during high winds.

· Encampment residents told Today’s Northumberland the port-a-potty that was constructed had to be dismantled/destroyed by order of the Town of Cobourg (Today’s Northumberland is working to confirm)

· A security guard was spit upon by a resident taking shelter at The Warming Room (the security guard did not wish to charge the person)
