Breaking News – Log House Goes Up in Flames in the Municipality of Port Hope

In Editor Choice, Local

Firefighters fought in vain to save a log home from burning on Sunday evening, October 1, 2023 in the Municipality of Port Hope.

At approximately 9:50 p.m. Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services responded to a possible structure fire at 9406 Woodvale School Road west of Bewdley.

The caller stated the fire possibly started in a back shed that was close to the house.

While fire crews were responding they were advised the fire had spread to the two-storey house and when firefighters arrived the home was engulfed in flames.

Additional manpower and tanker support was called in from Hamilton Township and Alnwick/Haldimand Township while Cobourg Fire Department covered for Port Hope.

The house was located on a hill and tankers had to shuttle water from several kilometres away.

The occupants of the home were uninjured, but visibly upset at the loss.
