Scooter Bandits Believed to Be Responsible for Two Break-Ins in Cobourg

In Police Blotter

Corey Evans could only stand by the front door of her business and wait for front door glass to be repaired after a early morning break-in.

Evans has had enough.  It’s the fifth time Top-Cuts Hair Salon in the Victoria Place Plaza has been broken into since she’s owned the business.

This time, maybe a few hundreds dollars and two pairs of hair cutting scissors.

Cobourg Police are investigating two break-ins that are believed to have occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Just 26, 2023.

One break in was at Top Cuts Hair Salon located in the Victoria Place Plaza on Elgin Street and the other was located at Midas on Strathy Road.

The break-ins are believed to have happened around 5 a.m.  Both businesses have security systems.

Security video from Midas shows two people ride up in electric scooters wearing motorcycle helmets and gloves.

While one suspect watches, the other breaks the front door glass and enters the business.

The suspect who entered seemed to have previous knowledge on the use of cash registers and quickly unlocks the cash drawer.

Looks around the area, then enters and office and searches for valuables before leaving.

The same was done with Top-Cuts.

It’s believed at least one, or both of the suspects were wearing gloves.

In both cases damage to the doors exceeds what was taken in the theft.

“This salon will be so jacked-up with so many security features that these criminals won’t get 20-feet with-in this salon without having police on their arse – or me with a baseball bat.  I’d gladly take an assault charge.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-372-6821 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or visiting stopcrimehere.ca. Tips received through Crime Stoppers may be eligible for a cash reward.
