In Local

Today’s Northumberland has learned The Ruth Clarke Activity Centre for Seniors in Port Hope may be used as a warming centre in the upcoming days.

The mayor along with a councillor, town officials including the fire department, police department, and representatives from Northumberland County met at the Ruth Clarke Activity Centre on Thursday, November 24, 2022 to discuss the possibility of opening the facility as a warming room for people who are homeless.

Until the arrangment gets sorted out, Port Hope Mayor Olena Hankivsky said she has “been advised strongly not to make public comment until it’s sorted.”
