Municipality of Port Hope will Observe National Day of Mourning to Commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s Funeral

In City Hall

The Municipality of Port Hope has confirmed that it will observe the National Day of Mourning on Monday, September 19, 2022, with closures to some municipal buildings and facilities to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This decision also supports current Collective Agreement commitments.

This week, the Government of Canada announced the federal holiday, which coincides with Her Late Majesty’s State Funeral in London, United Kingdom, and the end of the official period of mourning in Canada. The Municipality of Port Hope joins many other municipalities across Ontario and Canada in observance of the day.

The following buildings and services will be closed on Monday, September 19, 2022:

  • Town Hall
  • Fire Administration Office
  • Development Team Office
  • Water Treatment Plant
  • Wastewater Treatment Plant
  • Joint Operation Centre
  • Hope Transfer Station
  • Rural Works Yard
  • Mary J. Benson Branch Library
  • The Hub at Canton Branch Library

The following buildings and services will remain open for rentals and scheduled programs and activities:

  • Transit
  • Town Park Recreation Centre
  • Jack Burger Sports Complex
  • Crossing Guards

The Municipality of Port Hope invites members of the public to sign the book of condolences at Town Hall during business hours until September 30, 2022.
