Cobourg Council – Victoria Hall Volunteers Come Through Again

In City Hall

Cobourg council this week accepted the correspondence from Victoria Hall Volunteers with thanks for the $1,500 cheque they enclosed.

This amount represents the cost of three new blinds installed in the second-floor Ryerson Gillet Room in June.

“With today’s donation, our members have given a total of $357,530 to a large number of projects over the years since 1975, when our charitable organization was established,” said the letter from Diane Chin.

Chin also alerted council to a fundraiser next year. A Hall So Grand on May 13 will tell the story of Victoria Hall in words, images and songs. It was originally slated for the hall’s 160th anniversary in 2020, but was postponed several times due to the pandemic.

Meanwhile the Rotary Club of Cobourg is celebrating its 100th anniversary only one year late because of the pandemic.

Three councillors who are club members sat out the vote to accept their correspondence and grant the request it contained – permission to place 16×24 lawn signs outside of projects the club has had involvement in (Northumberland Hills Hospital, Centennial Pool, the C. Gordon King Centre and several parks, for example) where such placement involves municipal property.

The signs will be up Sept. 1 through Oct. 15.

They also asked for permission to place a 32×80 freestanding pull-up banner at the Cobourg Community Centre Aug. 24 through Sept. 15 and in the Victoria Hall lobby Oct. 16 through Nov. 18.
