Message from Mayor Henderson Following Fatal Shooting in Cobourg

In City Hall, Local, Police Blotter

On behalf of Cobourg Municipal Council and senior staff, I wish to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Rohan Pyne.

“Like many, I was heartbroken and troubled to learn about the tragic events of Monday morning,” says Mayor Henderson. The Mayor’s Office has been in close contact with the Cobourg Police Service (CPS) throughout the course of the ongoing investigation. “I would like to thank the CPS and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), for their detailed investigation and would like to express my appreciation for members of the public who have followed police request to refrain from this area to allow CPS and the OPP to conduct their work.”

On behalf of Cobourg Council and Senior Staff, we wish to convey our condolences to Enzalee and their five young girls. “As a father, I cannot imagine the sadness and hardship of consoling
young children after the loss of their parent,” says Mayor Henderson. “It is my hope that Enzalee may find strength from friends and this wonderful community.”

According to the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, the incident is believed to be isolated and there is no concern for public safety. “As the community deals with
the tragic news, I wish to thank the Cobourg Police Service for their increased presence Downtown Cobourg and for their continuous due diligence in safeguarding the peace, safety
and well-being of our community.”

For any members of the public who have not had the opportunity to observe Police Chief, Paul VandeGraaf’s press conference please visit the Cobourg Police Service’s website for more
information. Further updates regarding the investigation can be found on the OPP twitter account.
