No Injuries As Car Drives Through Metal Fence in Victoria Park Campground in Cobourg

In Editor Choice, Local, Police Blotter

It’s a miracle no one was seriously injured after a vehicle drove through the metal fence of the Victoria Park Campground on Friday, June 24, 2022.

At approximately 3 p.m. Toronto resident Danny Pivnick was about to enjoy Cobourg beach when he heard a car accelerating.

At the time Pivnick was parked on a spot at the bottom of Division Street.

“We just heard a car accelerating. We turned around and just saw the car coming through (the fence).

Pivnick said the car went through the Victoria Park Campgrounds, then exited through the gate and travelled northbound on Division Street.

Two other witnessed chased the vehicle down by foot and managed to stop it at King and Division Streets.

“It was a little nutty,” Pivnick said after witnessing the drama.

“We were lucky to not be hit. We just put the parking ticket in the car 20-seconds before.”

Two campers who had been sitting in lawn chairs in the campground were directly in the cars path, but they had moved just moments earlier.

A couple walking on the sidewalk were also nearly struck.

Emergency services arrived at both scenes, but there were no injuries.

The elderly driver was checked over, but was not physically injured from the collision.

Cobourg Police are investigating.
