Floral Clock in Victoria Park Celebrates Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

The theme of the floral clock this year in Victoria Park is celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Staff from the Parks Department worked for three days preparing and planting the flowers at the floral clock at the corner of Church Street and Queen Street.

“It looks so beautiful,” exclaimed Jackie Chapman-Davis who is Community Events Coordinator as she saw the clock on Thursday, May 26, 2022.

“Everyone in Cobourg looks forward to this every year.”

Through a grant from the Province Chapman-Davis said they were able to design and create the clock.

“It was a lot of hard work. A lot of designing on how you want it to look based on what we could and couldn’t do with the emblem. And then taking the time to plant out the colours. It is a long process and so nice to finally see it.”

Thousands of different kinds of alternanthera and santalina plants have been planted by the staff and summer students of the Parks Department.

Cobourg Horticulturalist Rick Cromlish said he was approached by the town and given a template with the logo to help create the design.

“The crown was probably the most difficult part.”

Usually with the floral clocks they are finished in a day, but with the preparation and fine tuning it’s took upwards of three days – but well worth it.
