The Emcee’s for the evening were Joel Scott and York Bell-Smith, who were pleased to be back hosting an in-person event, held on April 21, 2022, at the Cobourg Lions Community Centre.

‘Handbags for Hospice’ had 250 attendees who enjoyed an evening of delicious food, entertainment, and bidding on a variety of live and silent auctions items. Attendees also had the opportunity to purchase a Golden Ticket – 150 tickets were available to purchase at $100.00. First prize was 2 tickets for anywhere WESTJET flies, second prize was a day at St. Annes Spa, Grafton for 2, plus an overnight stay at Whispering Springs, and third prize was a designer handbag. All prizes were generously donated. The draw sold out and raised $15,000!

“Our goal for the evening was $75,000 to support resident care”, states Nancy Oliver, Chair of the Special Events Committee. “This is 10% of what is needed to be fund raised on an annual basis.

To exceed our goal by $26,000 is just incredible and is due to the generosity of our sponsors, donors, the community, attendees and the dedicated members of the Special Events Committee Wendy Ito, Jennifer Darrell, Jaclyn Agueci, Pam Buttery, Heike Kwok and Jan Rosamond and staff Lynda Kay, Darlene Wood and Jenny McCaig Lindsay who planned the evening.”

“There is no cost to access the services at Ed’s House. The funds raised through this event are critical to support resident care. Many thanks go to the dedicated efforts of the Special Events Committee and to the community for their tremendous support,” says Trish Baird, Chief Executive Officer, Community Care Northumberland.
