Update – Roseneath Man Brings A Smile to Children After Arriving In Poland

In Editor Choice, Local, National

It didn’t take long for a Roseneath man to make a difference after a long flight and train ride to Poland.

Forty-two-year-old James Challice took off from Pearson International Airport on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.

Challice sent Today’s Northumberland a brief update on his journey early Thursday morning.

After a eight hour flight, followed by a five hour train ride he met up with an American priest and a Canadian who had insulin.

“They were very poorly equipped so I have taken them under my wing and now we have a truck to bring back over supplies then are headed to a children’s hospital in Iviv.

Presently they are in Prezemysl, Poland which borders Ukraine.

The group hasn’t crossed into Ukraine yet because of the curfew.

Challice said with the number of refugees coming across the border, people are doing everything they can to help, but “people are coming in constantly.”

A heartwarming moment for Challice was when he handed out a number of dolls his grandmother made to give to refugee children.

With people coming across with only what they could carry, giving a small handmade Canadian doll brought a smile to the faces of the children.

“It felt great to get them to the children. I have handed out a few to kids who were crying and even got a hug from a couple.”

Challice has set up a tent for himself along a fence line to get rest when he’s able.

Challice said he will try and update Today’s Northumberland on his journey when he is able.
