The Walk A Mile Chief’s Challenge took place at the Cobourg Firehall on Saturday, September 25, 2021 pitting the Cobourg Police Service against members of the Cobourg Fire Department.

The Challenge was a fundraiser for the Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre in Cobourg and to raise awareness of family violence.

Traditionally the men would walk a mile wearing red high heel shoes, but due to COVID that wasn’t possible, so it was decided that they would have a challenge between the two emergency services.

Wearing red high heels members of each team had to climb over hurdles with a glass of water filling up a jug, before moving on to eating a hanging (dry) donut. It was then on to the wheelbarrow chase around pylons. And lastly weaving around pylons carrying a timbit on a spoon.

It was a close race, but Cobourg Police managed to pull off the win.

Cobourg Fire Department edged out the police service in terms of fundraising with Cobourg Police raising $1,100 and Cobourg Fire Department raising $1,190.

Cobourg Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf said after the event, “it was a great opportunity to support Cornerstone.”

“It was good to get out, work with the team and have a lot of fun along the way.”

Cobourg firefighter Jack Dillon said it was a “group effort” coming up with the obstacle course.

And says even though the fire department came in second with the obstacle course, “it was a close second.”

“It’s great that both services were able to come together and raise such a good amount of money for Cornerstone.”
