Two members of a family were killed after their vehicle struck a parked commercial motor vehicle on Highway 401 in Clarington on Monday, July 19, 2021.

At approximately 6:47 a.m. a vehicle travelling westbound was exiting Highway 401 entering into the westbound OnRoute Centre west of Newtonville when it collided with the back of a commercial motor vehicle that had pulled off and was parked on the shoulder of the off-ramp.

Skid marks at the scene indicate the vehicle possible lost control and slid sideways, with the drivers side colliding with the parked commercial motor vehicle.

A five-year-old child who was in the rear seat was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre.
