Port Hope Police Chief Receives the Order of Merit

Port Hope Police Chief Bryant Wood received the Order of Merit during a virtual ceremony at the Port Hope Police Station on Tuesday, July 13, 2021.

Commissioner of the RCMP Brenda Lucki presided over the ceremony.

Chief Wood’s wife, Natalie presented him with the Order of Merit which recognizes exceptional service or performance of duty over an extended period.

Chief Wood has been a police officer for 29-years, with 28 of those being a member of the Port Hope Police Service.

He was born in Oshawa but moved to the area in 1992 to raise his family.

Established in October 2000, the Order of Merit of the Police Forces honours the leadership and exceptional service or distinctive merit displayed by the men and women of the Canadian Police Services, and recognizes their commitment to this country. The primary focus is on exceptional merit, contributions to policing and community development. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the Order’s Sovereign, the governor general is its Chancellor and a Commander, and the commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is its Principal Commander.
