Cobourg Begins Assessment of New Provincial Regulations

In City Hall, Local

Communications forthcoming once Town understands what municipal programs and services will be affected.

The Town of Cobourg’s Emergency Control Group is asking for the community’s patience and understanding as the Town takes some time to assess the implications of the most recent public health measures as announced by the Province of Ontario on April 16, 2021.

In a further effort to combat the rapid growth of COVID-19 case rates while relieving pressures on the health care system, the province announced strengthened enforcement of the Stay-at-Home Order. This includes extending the order to May 20, 2021, imposing new travel restrictions and further strengthening public health measures.

As new public health measures are announced the Town of Cobourg needs time to assess the new guidelines, regulations and specific implications to municipal programs and services, and the logistics involved with our required response. These potential new measures being assessed, include:

As of April 17, 2021:
• Outdoor gatherings must be with members of your household only. Those who live alone may join one household.
• All outdoor recreational amenities are closed. Such as basketball courts, tennis and pickleball courts, soccer fields, and playgrounds with limited exceptions.
• All non-essential construction is paused.

As of April 19, 2021:
• Weddings, funerals, and religious services, rites or ceremonies are limited to 10 people indoors or outdoors.

“We would like to thank residents for your patience as the Emergency Control Group works through the new guidelines and commit to providing further communication when we know exactly what municipal programs and services will be affected, and how the Town will manage our response to these changes announced today,” said Tracey Vaughan, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Cobourg. “We are asking residents to please abide by the Stay-At-Home Order to keep yourself, your loved ones and your community safe.”
