Rotary Harbourfront Rink in Cobourg Vastly Over Set Limit On Tuesday

In Local

It’s an issue that will likely be dealt with sooner than later by Cobourg Council.

On Tuesday, December 22, 2020 the Rotary Harbourfront Rink was vastly overcrowded with people.

Council agreed to open up the rink, but under strict rules and regulations due to COVID-19.

Among the regulations were a limit of 25 people on the rink.

At times during Tuesday there were anywhere from 50 to 100 people on the rink with the vast majority not wearing masks nor social distancing.

A by-law officer was there throughout the afternoon and shortly before 5 p.m. a Cobourg Police officer was on scene after they received a complaint about overcrowding.

Witnesses stated the officer was extremely polite calling everyone over and asking them to take turns on the ice limiting it to 25 people.

Today’s Northumberland reached out to Cobourg Mayor John Henderson, but as of 6:30 p.m. there has been no comment.
