Port Hope Police – Identity Fraud

Another member of our community became the victim of identity fraud. This fraud was discovered when the man tried to purchase a new vehicle but was not able to get the financing. After looking into the matter he learned there had been two cash money loans taken out in his name back in 2017. The victim was told the loans were taken out near Port Hope ON.

Port Hope Police urge our community members to reach out to police before you send any money through bitcoin or any other means of sending cash to someone. Every day is Crime Prevention; however November 1 _ 7, is the provincial Crime Prevention Week. This year Crime Prevention is about the benefits of a holistic community approach for addressing local crime and issues related to safety and well-being. As you can see from the recent press release it is important to help each other to prevent more community members from becoming victims of crime.

The Port Hope Police Service want to continue to provide the supports required for the needs of our community. We do this by being proactive and involving community partners such as our Mental Health Engagement and Response Team (MHEART), Northumberland County outreach program, and Rebound Youth Services. Port Hope Police have several other community partners’ to help our community needs.
