Queenies Bake Shop In Port Hope Helps Make Thanksgiving For Others

In Community, Editor Choice, Local

Queenies Back Shop in Port Hope held their ninth annual free Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday, October 11, 2020.

Owner Adam Pearson said after purchasing Queenies Bake Shop he saw a need in the community and wanted to give back to the community who has supported him throughout the year.

“We have a wonderful turnout – unfortunately there are a lot of people that need it.”

“It’s for anybody. I’ve never said no to anyone.”

Having it as the only thing on the menu for Sunday didn’t deter people from enjoying the turkey dinner complete with all the fixings.

Normally the business on Walton Street is filled with people for the giveaway, but due to COVID, Pearson and his staff had to have strictly take-out orders.

Pearson worked for two days in preparation for the Thanksgiving dinner which included 100 pounds of turkey, 50 pounds of potatoes, 25 pounds of carrots and 10 pounds of parsnips.

But seeing the appreciation on the faces of people was well worth it for himself and staff.

From noon until 2 p.m. 78 turkey dinners were handed out to people.

“We love it. We think about it all year because it is so enjoyable.”

“We wouldn’t be here without the support of the town so this is my way of saying thank you to the town for supporting us, by me supporting them.”

It was Doug Smith’s first time having the dinner and said, “it’s terrific.”

John Buddo is a regular at the business and comes every year for the dinner.

Buddo said Pearson is marvellous in what he does for the community.

“He’s got a good heart and he’s very generous.”

Soon after Buddo was in his vehicle on Walton Street enjoying the delicious meal.

“Adam serves great food, he’s a great baker and a generous guy.”

Approximately $1,000 was raised and will be donated to the Northumberland Community Counselling Centre.
