Port Hope Drive-In Officially Open!

In Local

It was as packed as it could be for the first drive-in of the season in Northumberland County.

The Port Hope Drive-In on Theatre Road (in Hamilton Township) opened up on Friday, June 12, 2020 with the movies Back to the Future and The Invisible Man.

But for those waiting in their vehicles, some since 5:30 p.m., it didn’t matter what the movie was, it was just a chance to get out and get back to some form of normalcy.

The Ajax couple that drove down had been waiting since 5:30 p.m. for the drive-in to open up.

They weren’t sure if they’d be awake, so the couple set the alarm on their phones.

For another couple from Bowmanville it was their first time at the drive-in. They knew what movies were playing, but again, would just happy to be out and have some time together.

Menu’s were handed out when paying to get in and if they wanted items off the menu they would order and pay at the snack bar, then the staff would bring it out to their vehicle.

Although the drive-in holds 400 vehicles, because of the new regulations because of COVID-19 only 200 vehicles were allowed in.
