Local Artist Brightens Up Victoria Beach in Cobourg

In Local

A Cobourg woman felt compelled to create artwork on the fence along Victoria Beach.

Jenny Duda swims along the lakeshore daily, but everytime she sees the 2,000 foot fence along the beach she gets a sense of anxiety.

“It (the fence) made me feel not very happy, so I wanted to create something at the beach to leave for the locals that lessons the anxiety of being fenced in.”

Duda said the large heart, “is full of a rainbow of colour to embrace everybody. It’s not a political statement, it is just to share some love and to create smiles when people come to the beach.”

It took Duda approximately two-hours to construct the artwork along the fenceline.

While installing the artwork, Duda received numerous accolades from people walking along the board walk.

Visitors to the beach area, will likely see other pieces of artwork after Duda contacted other artists.

“We’re hoping the fence will contain a lot of art that lifts everybody’s spirits as they come down to the beach.”

The heart is made of fleece made from old blankets and materials made from other projects.
