One Person Sent to Hospital Following House Fire in Hamilton Township

One person was taken to hospital following a house fire in Hamilton Township on Sunday, May 31, 2020.

Hamilton Township Fire Department were called to 8176 Jibb Road east of Camborne at approximately 5:14 p.m.

While responding to the scene, firefighters could see black smoke in the area of the fire.

Once on scene there were heavy flames coming from the side and front of the home.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames but worked on putting out hot spots for several hours.

The home has two apartments in it. One occupant was outside working when he noticed smoke coming from the his apartment on the bottom floor.

Quickly grabbing an extinguisher, the tenant tried to put out the flames in the kitchen, but the fire was to involved.

He immediately called 9-1-1.

The one tenant was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation. It’s believed the two other tenants in the other apartment weren’t home.

The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen area, but firefighters will be examining the scene tomorrow.

Deputy Chief Mike Robinson said the fire is not suspicious and damage is estimated at $350,000.
