Farmer’s Honour Front Line Workers in Cobourg

Approximately 100 tractors and vehicles paid tribute to frontline workers at Northumberland Hills Hospital and the Golden Plough Lodge long-term care facility in Cobourg on Saturday, April 18, 2020.

The event was put on by the Northumberland Federation of Agriculture and farmers from across Northumberland County participated in the event.

Tractors from 40 horsepower to 400 horsepower lined up on Telephone Road just north of Highway 401 and sharply at 1 p.m. the convoy of vehicles were led into town by members of the Cobourg Police Service.

Numerous people watched from in their vehicles along the route as the procession came over the Highway 401 bridge along Burnham Street and along DePalma Drive into the parking lot of Northumberland Hills Hospital.

Two ambulances were parked with emergency lights activated and numerous staff from Northumberland Hills Hospital stood outside the emergency department wearing protective clothing and waving to the farmers.

Standing in the parking lot waving to each tractor/vehicle as they drove by was an emotional President and CEO of Northumberland Hills Hospital Linda Davis, Senior Vice President Elizabeth Vosburgh and Executive Director of Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation Rhonda Cunningham.

The convoy then went by the Golden Plough Lodge where residents and staff watched.

Chair of Northumberland Federation of Agricultural Sid Atkinson said it was a way to show support to the frontline workers.

“It felt good to see the people waving and the support we saw. It was a good feeling.”
