Update – Cobourg Police – Novice Driver Charged With Impaired Driving

A male has been charged with impaired driving after police responded to a single motor vehicle collision.

On the 26th of December 2019 the Cobourg Police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Workman Rd. The motor vehicle was travelling North on Workman Rd when the driver lost control of the motor vehicle and ran off the roadway.

As a result of the police investigation, 19 year old Connor LEHTINEN of Hamilton Township was charged with:

• Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol and Drug Contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code,

• Failure or Refuse to Comply with Demand Contrary to Section 320.15(1) of the Criminal Code, • Having Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor Contrary to Section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act,

• Fail to Properly Wear Seat Belt Contrary to Section 106(2) of the Highway Traffic Act, Possess More than One Licence contrary to Section 35(1)(e) of the Highway Traffic Act,

• Novice Driver – Presence of a Drug contrary to Section 44.2(4) of the Highway Traffic Act and

• Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance Contrary to Section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act and released.

LEHTINEN was released on an Undertaking with an impending court date.

Cobourg Police encourage the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911. Impaired driving is the #1 criminal cause of death in Canada and, yet, every impaired driving crash is preventable. By calling 911 and reporting suspected impaired drivers to police, everyone can play a role in keeping our roads and waterways safe and in reducing impaired driving crashes, deaths and injuries.
