Cobourg Police – Man Facing Numerous Charges As A Result of Traffic Stop

On Monday November 25th, 2019 members of the Cobourg Police Service were on general patrol and stopped a motor vehicle in the north east area of the Town of Cobourg for an expired validation sticker.

The driver provided a false name and failed a roadside screening device.

As a result of Police investigation, Shawn CHIPLICK, a 41-year-old male from Cobourg was arrested and charged with the following offences:
1. Drive Motor Vehicle – No Validation on Plate – Contrary to Section 7(1)(c)(i) of the Highway Traffic Act
2. Personation with Intent to Resist Arrest – Contrary to Section 403(1)(d) of the Criminal Code of Canada
3. Obstruct Peace Officer – Contrary to Section 129(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
4. Operation While Prohibited – Contrary to Section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
5. Operation While Prohibited – Contrary to Section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
6. Operation While Prohibited – Contrary to Section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
7. Drive While Under Suspension – Contrary to Section 53(1.1) of the Highway Traffic Act
8. Fail to Surrender Insurance Card – Contrary to Section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
9. Operation While Impaired Over 80 – Contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
10. Breach of Recognizance to Keep the Peace – Contrary to Section 810 of the Criminal Code of Canada

The motor vehicle was towed to a local impound lot and held for 45 days as per the VIP program.

CHIPLICK was released from custody on a Promise to Appear – Officer in Charge Undertaking and Summonses with a future court date.
