It was a special birthday celebration for PrimRose the donkey in Roseneath.

Primrose celebrated her 45th birthday at the PrimRose Donkey Sanctuary north of Cobourg in Roseneath (Alnwick/Haldimand Township) on Sunday, August 25, 2019. Every year the PrimRose Donkey Sanctuary celebrates her birthday and one of the volunteers makes a special birthday cake, but instead of candles they use carrots.

Sheila Burns is the founder/proprietor but says with upwards of 50 donkeys she’s definitely not in charge.

PrimRose Donkey Sanctuary is dedicated to the rescue, protection, and rehabilitation of abused, neglected, and unwanted donkeys, mules and hinnies.

PrimRose the donkey came to Sheila which started the sanctuary 25-years ago, so every year there is a birthday party. There is only one other registered donkey sanctuary in Canada.
