Exclusive Details Of Armed Robbery In Cobourg

In Editor Choice, Police Blotter

Today’s Northumberland has learned exclusive details about a armed robbery that happened on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at E.B. Games on Strathy Road in Cobourg.

When police arrived at approximately 5 p.m., they found two staff members restrained, but unharmed.

Today’s Northumberland has learned the man was in the store for a considerable length of time looking to purchase a gaming system.

The assailant then walked up to a staff member by the counter, dropped zip-ties and told the staff member to put the zip-ties around the other staff members wrists. The suspect pulled a knife, grabbed the collar of one employee and held the knife up to his neck while his co-worker was force to zip-tie his wrists together. Then the suspect tied the wrists of the second staff member with zip-ties.

“He was considerably nice for robbing us,” said one employee.

“He was worried about how tight the zip-ties were around our hands.”

The suspect even propped the two victims up and asked if they were alright.

“It was weird.”

The two staff members were moved to the back of the store where they were put on the floor so the general public wouldn’t be able to see them.

While the suspect was rummaging through the store for several minutes, a person who was unaware of what was taking place walked into the store.

“I heard the guy come in,” said one employee.

“But I didn’t want to poke out, because that (could) get someone hurt or worse – killed.”

The suspect told the person who had just entered the store that it was closed and the person left.

Shortly after the suspect took off with, “as many systems as he could carry.”

Xbox and PlayStation systems were put in bags and carried off. The systems are each worth approximately $500.

The store employees waited to make sure the suspect was gone before working to free themselves, lock themselves in a safe room and notify police.

The male suspect is described as: African American descent, clean-shaven, approximately 23-27 years of age, about 5’10” in height and slender build. The male was wearing a ball cap and sunglasses.

Information on a possible vehicle is unavailable at this time. Anyone with information on this incident, or the identity and location of the suspect is asked to contact the Cobourg Police Service, Criminal Investigations Branch 905-372-6821.
