Update – Mechanical Failure On Waste Haulage Truck Responsible For Oil Spill In Cobourg

In Editor Choice, Local

Today’s Northumberland has learned that a waste haulage truck was responsible for an oil spill which occurred on Tuesday, July 30, 2019.

Heather Croft, Ministry of Environment Investigation Officer said that a haulage truck, “experienced a mechanical failure causing the loss of approximately 150 litres of hydraulic oil that spilled onto the roadway.”

Staff with the Town of Cobourg took action to contain the spill shortly after it was identified.

Granular absorbent products and pads were placed on oily ground surfaces, and booms were installed in front of catch basins and in the Cobourg Creek at the storm water sewer outfalls.

Craft said that Ministry staff will continue to work with the Town of Cobourg and the waste haulage company to ensure that the spill is properly cleaned up.
