Cobourg Police Weekly Media Release – July 22 – July 28, 2019

On July 22, 2019 to July 28, 2019, the Cobourg Police Service responded to 251 incidents which included:
15 theft calls, 13 motor vehicle collisions, 15 alarm calls, 3 missing person calls, 10 suspicious person calls, 6 fraud calls, 18 9-1-1 hang up calls, 4 suspicious vehicle call, 3 stolen vehicle calls, 3 assault calls, 2 drug offences calls, and 2 domestic dispute calls.
Here are some examples of calls for service for the week;

Man Arrested for Possession of Narcotics
Police were dispatched to a downtown address regarding a suspicious man on July 27, 2019 at 9:53 am. Police located the man and upon making contact, police observed in plain view, the man to be in possession of a small quantity crystal methamphetamine.
The man was identified as 27-year-old Matthew Lebold of Cobourg. Lebold was arrested and charged with possession of a schedule 1 substance, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Lebold was released on a promise to appear with a court date in August.

Female Arrested for Assault
Police attended the downtown area on July 28, 2019 at approximately 2:15 am and became aware of an altercation that had just occurred. Further investigation revealed that a woman was punched in the face by another woman known to her.
As a result of a police investigation, 28-year-old Baltimore resident Briana McAdam was arrested and charged with Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada sec.266.
McAdam was released from custody with a Promise to Appear in court at a future date.

July 22
Police were called to a business on the east end of Cobourg for a report of a stolen vehicle. On arrival police spoke with the complainant who advised that sometime on the weekend his vehicle was stolen off his lot. The vehicle was recovered at a later date in Toronto after being involved in fail to remain accident.

Police were called to the downtown core for a report of an intoxicated man yelling and swearing at a complainant’s children. Police located the man a short time later and was cautioned for his actions. The man was later advised to go home and was released from the scene without charges.

July 23
Police were dispatched to a business on Ontario Street for an alarm in progress. Upon arrival police discovered that unknown person(s) had entered at the rear of the business. Nothing was apparently taken from the business and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Cobourg Police or Crime Stoppers.

A call was received from a local gas station about an elderly woman who had pumped a quantity of fuel and had not paid. Police attended the address of the woman and she quickly went back to the gas station and paid her bill without incident.

July 24
Police attended an address near the downtown for a disturbance call. Upon arrival police learned that two residents had become involved in a minor altercation and both parties were under the influence of either drugs or alcohol. Neither party wished to lay a complaint and one of the parties was discharged from the residence.

Police were called to an address in the west-end of Cobourg for a family dispute and learned that a man had been locked out on the balcony to stop the dispute. On arrival the dispute had calmed down and one person was transported to the Cobourg Police Service to spend the night in the front lobby.

July 25
Police received a call for an assault that had just occurred at a residence near the downtown. At the Cobourg Police Service, police took a statement from the victim, who had bruising under her eye. Police located and arrested a female a short time later for the assault and she was released with a court date and conditions.

Police were called to a downtown business for a report of an assault. On arrival police spoke to the victim who alleged that he had a verbal dispute with another man who had assaulted him by punching him and then kicking his shin. No visible injuries were apparent to police and the victim declined medical assistance and did not want charges laid in the incident.

July 26
Police responded to an address near the downtown for a report of a woman feeling unwell. Upon arriving at the scene police were advised that she just drank a glass of wine and began feeling dizzy. Paramedics were called and attended the scene and transported the woman to the hospital for further observations.

Police were called to an address on the east-side of Cobourg for a man who had been hit with a shovel and was not being allowed to leave a residence. Upon arriving on scene police learned that nobody had been hit with a shovel and the man that contacted police had already left. Police spoke with a friend who advised that the man was intoxicated and became belligerent with party goers and left the area without incident.

July 27
Police were called for a break and enter to an abandoned building on the north-end of Cobourg as several youths were inside the building. The youths had left the area prior to police arrival but were located a short distance away and cautioned under the trespass to property act and sent on their way.

Police were called for an unwanted person in an apartment on Division Street. On arrival police spoke with the landlord who advised that he wished to have his tenant removed due to his behavior. The landlord was versed on the residential tenancies act and the reason police could not just remove the tenant. Both parties spoken to and advised they would attempt to get along for the time being.

July 28
Police were on general patrol of the downtown area and observed several people engaged in a heated argument. The parties were separated and after an investigation it was found that an assault had occurred. Police arrested a woman a short time later and she was transported to the Cobourg Police Service and later released with a court date and conditions.

Police attended an address near Victoria Park for loud party goers having a BBQ in a driveway. Upon arrival police spoke with several partiers who advised they were just leaving the area and apologized for the inconvenience to everyone.
